OpenAI introduces GPT-6 Cyber with restricted initial access

OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Cyber on November 5 for authorized vulnerability research and security testing. The model, gpt-6-cyber, is initially available through the API and Codex to selected, approved Daybreak Red customers, with broader access within that program planned. It supports a 1,050,000-token context window. Standard short-context API rates are $20 per million input tokens and $100 per million output tokens.

OpenAI reports an ExploitGym score of 48.5%, compared with 32.1% for GPT-5.6 Cyber, alongside improved compliance with researchers' task boundaries. The company classifies its cybersecurity capability as Critical under its Preparedness Framework. That combination makes controlled access central to the release: safeguards include monitoring, default IP allowlisting for Daybreak Red API access, and recommended human oversight for high-risk work.
