OpenAI launches GPT-6.1 Terra with lower-cost computer use

OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26, offering the model as gpt-6.1-terra in its API and to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Standard API prices are $1 per million input tokens, $0.05 per million cached input tokens, and $5 per million output tokens. OpenAI positions it for visual reasoning, computer use, and writing at half the standard token prices of GPT-6.1 Sol.

According to OpenAI, Terra scores 15 percentage points above GPT-5.6 Terra on Agents’ Last Exam at medium reasoning effort, at about one-third the cost. Its published Terminal-Bench 4.0 result reaches 50.3% at maximum effort, versus 21.5% for GPT-5.6 Terra. OpenAI still recommends Sol or Astra for the most complex coding tasks.
