Finding someone willing to fund a startup can depend on having the right phone numbers. Investable.Africa, a platform connecting African founders and investors, has opened for public testing with a database of more than 4,000 investment firms. Founders can search for investors by industry, location, and the amount they typically invest, while controlling who can see their business documents.
The platform grew out of a long-running WhatsApp group that connected founders with investors. Investors use it free but are checked before they can view full company profiles and presentations. Founders can build a profile free; a listing costs $299 a year. The service takes no share of money raised and does not handle investments. Founders decide which documents to reveal and can see who actually opens them.
