Bedrock Robotics raises $600 million to expand autonomous excavators

Bedrock Robotics announced a $600 million Series C led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital, according to an October 26 report. The startup sells Bedrock Operator, an autonomy system that enables excavators to navigate construction sites and carry out earthmoving tasks with limited human input. Its equipment combines a computing unit in the cabin with roof-mounted sensors, including eight cameras and lidar, according to the company.

Bedrock has begun performing paid work on commercial construction sites. The new funding will support wider adoption and the field-service infrastructure needed for additional deployments. CEO Boris Sofman says the next challenge is making autonomous excavation dependable for more contractors. The company also plans to extend its technology to other construction vehicles, broadening its scope beyond excavators.
