An October 26 report describes how Volare has completed its first industrial-scale insect protein factory in Pori, Finland, and raised €7.1 million through Springvest to support preparations for a second facility. The €15 million plant is designed to produce up to 5,000 metric tons of protein and 2,000 metric tons of oil annually. It uses food-industry byproducts to feed black soldier fly larvae and is designed to operate with four people per shift.
A significant share of capacity has already been sold through agreements with customers including aquafeed producer Skretting. CEO Jarna Hyvönen says a second factory would ideally produce 20,000–30,000 metric tons of protein annually, with reliable local feedstock supply determining its location. EU rules still exclude post-consumer food waste and most animal byproducts as feed, but she says the business does not depend on those restrictions changing.
